In 2022, hacker activity against domestic manufacturers of operating systems (OS) was practically zero, but this year the number of such attacks will increase sharply, information security experts predict. Cybercriminals will start looking for vulnerabilities and using new hacking tools. RSpectr surveyed the largest market players and found out whether they are ready to defend themselves.
THEY WILL TAKE AIM
One of the trends of 2023 will be the active search for zero-day vulnerabilities in domestic operating systems (Astra Linux, ALT Linux and RED OS). This opinion is contained in the presentation of the content writing service advisor to the CEO of Positive Technologies Artem Sychev (available to RSpectr). He also predicts an increase in the number of cross-platformshacker tools, including those developed or rewritten for Linux.

According to Positive Technologies, in Q3 2022, the number of hacker attacks on systems based on the Linux open source code worldwide more than doubled compared to the previous quarter. The share of incidents involving Linux increased from 12 to 30%. This trend is also observed on the Russian market, analysts noted.
Cybercriminal attacks in 2022 have changed the established stereotypes that they are only interested in financial gain, noted Artem Sychev. According to him, even those companies that historically considered themselves of no interest to attackers were hit. The expert believes that
In 2023, we should expect the development of high hacker activity against Russian organizations, including from well-known cyber groups
He also does not rule out the emergence of new threats, zero-day vulnerabilities, and the activation of “dormant” cyber incidents.
Director of the Positive Technologies Security Expert Center Alexey Novikov told RSpectr that a large number of companies are currently developing plans for import substitution at an accelerated rate. After some foreign vendors announced their departure from Russia in 2022, market players are very distrustful of foreign organizations. Given this factor,
Many companies are urgently switching to domestic operating systems
According to Alexey Novikov, most attack vectors on operating systems are through the workstations of company employees. In this regard, Positive Technologies expects that attackers will study domestic operating systems more and implement new techniques tied to them.
